October 2020 – Kentucky – Mammoth Cave Area Ride

From October 15th to the 18th myself and 3 other friends rode down to Cave City, KY.

It was a 900 mile round trip. We left after work on Thursday October 15th and rode 1/2 way down to Middletown, OH. When we woke to leave early in the morning there was frost on the bikes.

We stayed at a little hotel in Cave City, KY. called the OYO Hotel – Here’s a link to their site – OYO Hotel – 414 N Dixie Hwy, Cave City, KY. 42127 – (270) 279-1396

The room was about $40.00 each night. The hotel is a no frills place and there isn’t much around it in the way of food or conveniences but it was clean and provided a place to sleep and store our gear.

There is no breakfast server or in room coffee makers but there was a mini-fridge and microwave. It have cable TV. There is no pool or other amenities provided.

The people running the place were extremely nice and friendly and the guy working there provided us with some pointers on some of the better directions and roads to take in the area.

We arrive on the 16th about lunch time and checked in and took about an hour or so nap and then rode around the surrounding roads the rest of the day until dinner.

The next day we spent out exploring the surrounding roads and just road until we wanted to either stop for breaks or photo’s.

We did make it to Diamond Cavern as Mammoth Cave itself you needed to have a reservation to see due to Covid-19 and they were fully booked. We did have lunch at the small cafeteria at Mammoth Cave. The experience at Diamond Cave was good and it was a short side excursion that didn’t cut to much into our riding time of the day. I’d say we spent about 1.25 hours there.

We enjoyed the areas roads and didn’t find a bad one. The whole trip was a little over 1750 miles between the 900 mile round trip and the daily riding in the area.
